There is a very special group of Greyhounds available for adoption: “The Shy Ones.” You probably don’t see them when you come to the GPA/GO kennel because they hide under the desk. You probably don’t see them at a Meet ‘n Greet or special event because they’re a little too nervous out in noisy, public places. If you do see a shy one, his/her head is down and the tail is tucked, so he/she doesn’t make a very good impression. But these special Greyhounds still deserve a forever home! And if you adopt one, you’ll understand that they’re also special in lots of other ways. The first tail wag, the first time they take food from your hand, the first time they don’t hide when a stranger visits your home, the first time they play with a toy—all these are very special moments in their lives, and yours! A shy Greyhound usually does better in a home with another dog for moral support, and it helps to have a fenced yard (although they can definitely be trained to walk nicely on a leash, even enjoy going for walks). If you’re thinking about adoption, please ask about one of these shy pups. All Greyhounds are wonderful, but there’s something about “The Shy Ones”—they really get under your skin and fill a special place in your heart.
