SLJ'S HEADED SOUTH
AKA “HOMER”

HOMER PASSED OVER THE RAINBOW
BRIDGE
March 2000—January 22 2009
The
story of Homer
We were camping in the Florida Panhandle when we got a call to rescue a dog who was about to be put down because he was vicious dog. He was rescued by the Birmingham GPA . We made arrangements to get Homer in Montgomery AL. Since he was adopted out of GPAGO, he needed to be returned to where he was originally adopted.
Once we got Homer he never left us. Homer
liked to go camping and loved to chase squirrels and armadillos.
He was a faithful companion who guarded my bedroom door
to the outside and protected me from intruders. He did not
appreciate fireworks on New Years Eve and the Fourth of July. He
never showed any signs of being vicious and was friendly to
humans and other dogs. Cats were a different story.
He started having problems walking about two
month ago when he was diagnosed with a
shoulder problem known
as a “mouse” The problem continued to get worse and subsequent
x-rays indicated severe bone cancer. From that point, he went
downhill very fast and experienced much pain that even methadone
failed to help. He was a faithful companion and we will miss him
dearly.
