Tribute to Trouper Menard

August 13, 2009

We called him Trouper, which turned out to be the perfect name for him. He was with us less than a year when he started limping, and the eventual diagnosis was bone cancer. Through all the vet appointments, tests, and, finally, the amputation of his left front leg, his doctors all said that he was a REAL trouper. Having only three legs didn’t stop him one bit. He maintained his devotion to counter surfing. The counter surfing career had started with a fresh baked loaf of bread which we had not even tasted. From then on, his nickname was “Bread Boy” and all possible “targets” ended up on top of the refrigerator. He also loved to cuddle, which is what led us to adopt him. He just put his head in my lap and that was it! What a charmer he was. His favorite activity, however, was to lie on his back on the sofa with his legs in the air. He could do that for hours –life was good! Yes, Trouper had cancer, but it never stopped him from being a wonderful dog.
